(Laredo, TX AUGUST 30, 2017) Laredo Transit Management Inc.-El Metro administers the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Section 5310 Grant Program for the Laredo Urbanized Area. The goal of the program is to enhance mobility for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities by providing federal funds for programs and expanding the transportation mobility options available.
The Section 5310 program was established by the Federal Transit Authority as a discretionary capital and operating grant assistance program. In cases where public transit is inadequate or inappropriate, the program awards grants to private non-profit organizations to serve the transportation needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to transportation service and expanding transportation mobility options.
Laredo Transit Management Inc. – El Metro is now accepting funding applications from organizations (State or local governmental authority, a private non-profit organization, or an operator of public transportation that receives a Section 5310 grant indirectly through a recipient) who wish to apply for grant funds for capital and operating expenses for approved projects. The list of eligible projects and the funding application can be found at the El Metro website, www.elmetrotransit.com.
