Students that are planning to take fall courses at any local, private or public colleges, Universities, or public schools are reminded to take advantage of El Metro’s Student Transportation Program. The Student Transportation Program for the fall session provide unlimited bus rides for the duration of the fall session for a cost of $250.00. For Financial Aid eligibility of transportation bus passes, students are urged to inquire with their school registrar offices or counselors.
With over two hundred thousand students riding the local transit system every year, El Metro is committed to providing services that connect them to their destination in an efficient and safe manner. El Metro has a New Circulator route (C1 Mines Road) which also gives Mines road residents faster connectivity to three different routes:
- Route 1 Santa Maria
- Route 4 Springfield
- Route 16 TAMIU/Casa Verde
This is the second year that El Metro offers a competitive fall bus-pass program for students that are enrolled for fall classes.
“We are glad to provide local students with an alternate transportation program that enables them to attend School, engage on job opportunity, visit Recreation Centers, and to take leisure trips to local Shopping Centers or experience the Downtown area without having to spend a lot of their money on high-priced fuel, and parking fees”
said Claudia San Miguel, El Metro’s General Manager.
Working in conjunction with City Council El Metro has completed over 300 bus stop improvements this year where benches, sun shades, solar-powered lights, trash receptacles, and bike racks now make the transit experience more attractive for new riders. This is a record-setting effort that provides bus stop amenities to residents of the many neighborhoods. “Our upcoming Walk.Bike.Ride campaign will promote public transportation not only as of the leading environmental-friendly mode of transportation but also as one that promotes a healthier lifestyle by incorporating walking and biking to your closest bus stop” said Claudia San Miguel, El Metro’s General Manager.
