Google Transit is a feature of Google Maps that allows people to plan a trip using public transportation. “Our El Metro’s integration of Google Transit (at no cost to the city) into the day to day operations of our public bus system will enhance the predictability of when busses will arrive at the over 1200 bus stops throughout the city. This is a big step in making mass transit a viable option for those that want to ride the bus and not just those that are forced to. Google Transit is evidence of the company’s continued effort to place travel information directly in the hands of customers, making each trip even more convenient.
Google Transit offers a number of features that benefit El Metro Transit customers, including:
- Suggested trips with next available departure and arrival times
- Ability to select desired departure or arrival time and date
- Estimated trip duration
- Reverse trips
- Transfer times and locations
- Visual depiction of the route on geographical map
- Integration with other tools such as Google Maps for driving directions and Google Local for searches of nearby businesses and local landmarks
